It’s easy to see why Tuscany is Italy’s most visited region and buying Tuscany property is the dream of everyone who’s ever imagined owning a property in Italy.
Tuscany is so popular with the British that the Chianti region has been nicknamed Chiantishire after the number of people from the UK who have bought property in Tuscany here.
The region as a whole is a sublime mix of stunning, unspoiled landscapes – dotted with picturesque Tuscany property such as converted farmhouses and vineyards – and the famous cities such as Florence, Lucca, Siena, Pisa and Cortona.
But away from the tourist meccas, Tuscany boasts several medieval hilltop villages such as Pienza, Montepulciano, San Quinco d’Orcia and Montalcino that are living, breathing examples of the finest of medieval Tuscany.
Both Pienza and the surrounding Val d’Orcia, for instance, are such wonders of nature that they have been designated Unesco World Heritage Sites.
And Montalcino and Montepulciano are, along with Chianti, Tuscany’s leading wine producers. Montalcino makes one of Italy’s leading DOGCs while its rival Montepulciano produces Vino Nobile.
To cap it all there are also the beaches of Versilia, with picturesque resorts such as Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi. And there is also the Maremma region in the south, which along with Lunigiana in the north offers the most affordable of Tuscany properties.
